If you ever driven down any highway you would know that billboards only purpose is to clog up the sky with uninspiring advertising. But in the Peruvian desert, Lima to be exact , there was a billboard designed to be more than just an advertisement. The UTEC company has made a Potable water generator out of a billboard. Yes, you read that correctly they made a potable water generator out of a billboard that does nothing else than create drinking water from thin air. Lima has a sever lack of clean lack of clean water in the region and there is rarely any rainfall. But go figure the atmospheric humidity is 98 per cent.
The University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC) teamed up with creative agency Mayo Draftfcb to create this billboard – generators capture the air’s humidity and turn it into 100 litres of clean drinking water every day which is then stored in five easily accessible tanks. Giving clean usable water to the people. This is such a wonderful idea, I wonder why this technology isn’t used elsewhere.
